Armed Forces Education Trust

The Armed Forces Education Trust is a charity working for children and young adults, whose education has been compromised or put at risk as a result of their parent's(s') past or current service in the UK Armed Forces.

Grants are given to eligible families for education-related costs, such as fees, extra tuition, classroom support or for essential educational trips.

Who is eligible?

Children and young adults, up to the age of 25 years, whose education has been compromised or put at risk as a result of their parent's(s') past or current service in any part of the UK Armed Forces -British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines.

Grants are given via suppliers of goods or services or by giving items rather than money. Grants are not paid directly to grant recipients or their families.

Exclusions

The Trust is unlikely to award a grant if other funding is available, such as student loans for university fees.

Applications can be made by an individual in need or a family member.

Application process

Apply using the Armed Forces Education Trust online enquiry form. The charity will then contact the enquirer to discuss their needs and how to apply. Application is done using a web-based form.

The Trustees meet four times a year to discuss grants. However, they can make awards outside these times in exceptional circumstances.

Grant applications take 4-6 weeks on average to process, depending on how near to a grants meeting the application is made.

The charity replies to all enquiries, whether or not they can help.

Documents required as part of the application process

  • Child's passport

  • Payslip for serving parent(s) or ex-service discharge documentation

  • Most recent bank statements

  • Financial information about income and outgoings etc.

The Trust may speak to school or other support service/individuals about the application.

 

 

 

Other information

The Armed Forces Education Trust also gives grants to schools that have UK Armed Forces children.
