City & Guilds Bursaries

Students who wish to study or are studying a City and Guilds or Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) qualification to improve their financial security.

There are huge skills shortages in sectors that are extremely important for the future of the UK, and a growing number of jobs available that employers are finding it difficult to fill. As we have over the last 20 years, we want to make sure that City & Guilds bursaries give people the best possible chance of finding long term employment and transform lives.

From 2020 onwards, we will therefore be awarding bursaries to individuals who wish to gain skills in a range of sectors that we know need more skilled workers for the future.

These include:

  • Building Services Industry

  • Built Environment Services

  • Construction

  • Digital and IT

  • Engineering

  • Health and Social Care

  • Hospitality and Catering

  • Justice

  • Land Based Services

  • Manufacturing Industry

  • Skills for Work and Life

  • Leadership and management (ILM).

See the City & Guilds website for more information.

The bursary panel meet to award grants every three months, so you should never be waiting too long to hear the outcome. Between April and September 2020, this may take longer because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but once you have applied, we’ll keep in touch about timings.

If you are eligible for a bursary, we will contact you on the email you provide us with to let you know about online question and answer sessions where we share advice for filling in a full application that will give you the best possible chance of receiving funding.

Note – we only accept applications online. If you are a serving prisoner or have special needs or disabilities that mean you are unable to complete the online forms, please email: to request a paper copy.
