Gardner’s Trust for the Blind

Gardner’s Trust for the Blind provides grants to individuals who are registered blind or partially sighted.

The Trust considers applications for:

  • Computer equipment and software
  • Education or training costs
  • Household items, including some white goods.

The Trust is unable to give grants for: 

  • Debt repayment,
  • Loan repayments,
  • Holidays
  • Anything that has already been paid for

You may only apply once every 3 years.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for a grant from us, you have to:

  • Be registered and certified as a blind or partially sighted person who lives in the UK and is registered as a UK Citizen.
  • Hold a valid Certificate of Visual Impairment. 
  • Our grant is open to all age groups (birth onwards)

Please note the following very important points:

Grant applicants are required to follow the application procedure as described and provide ALL information as required. If applicants are unwilling to do so, they should NOT apply. 

We have a ZERO TOLERANCE attitude towards any incident in which employees are abused, threatened or assaulted, either in person, on the phone or online. This includes:

  • Aggressive behaviour 
  • Serious or persistent use of verbal abuse in any form, including verbal insults
  • Threatening behaviour that targets employees
  • Racial abuse and sexual harassment will not be tolerated

The charity will discontinue applications from abusive applicants and will take legal action if necessary. 

We ask you to treat employees courteously at all times.

How to apply?

ALL FORMS WILL NEED TO BE SUBMITTED BY THE PROFESSIONAL PERSON WHO IS SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION.

Grants must be submitted with ALL documentation complete (fully scanned document via email or post).
You must include:

  • Certificate of Visual Impairment
  • Supporting letter 
  • Details and price of the item/s requested (invoice/BACS payee reference details)
  • Correctly completed application form (*Please ensure all WEEKLY financials are correct. If the person is under 18 and/or still living at home the parents/carer's financial details should be included)  

Missing documentation causes delay and confusion.

Grant requests arriving after the deadline will be automatically added to the next quarterly meeting (MARCH/JUNE/SEPTEMBER/DECEMBER).

  • 9th February 

  • 25th May  

  • 10th August 

  • 16th November

Please note that we are unable to complete the forms for you. This should be done with the help of the professional person who is supporting your grant application.

Letters of support can be from the following:

  • Local Council
  • Local Blind Charity
  • Citizens Advice
  • Medical Professional
  • Social Worker
  • Rehabilitation Officer
  • Teacher

Grant requests above £600 will be conditional on the applicant raising the remaining sum via other charities/family donations or personal savings. The Trust will need to see proof of funds before making the payment. You will have 12 months to raise the balance.

When the maximum number of 25 applicants per quarter is reached, subsequent applications will be carried over to the following quarter.
