Glasgow Care Foundation

The Glasgow Care Foundation provides support in the form of household items for people who have lived in Glasgow City Council (pay Council Tax to Glasgow City Council) for at least 5 years. The Foundation helps people who are on low incomes, receive benefits or receive a Retirement Pension. Household items include: white goods, furnishings, floor and window coverings, baby items, decorating materials or other essential items. Please read the "Who is eligible" section to see which items we do not assist with.

Who is eligible?

We provide support to children and families, couples, kinship carers, elderly people, vulnerable individuals, and those who have a disability or suffer from mental health problems. We support those who have lived in the Glasgow area (pay Council Tax to Glasgow City Council) for 5 years or over, those on low incomes, in receipt of benefits, or Retirement Pension. Please note, we do not give grants to:

  • Repayment of debts
  • Fuel arrears
  • Funeral costs
  • Major repairs or adaptions to property
  • Garden alterations
  • Car repairs, adaptions or purchase
  • Holidays abroad for individuals or families.

How to apply?

We do not accept referrals from the client directly, only through a support worker.

The support worker/professional making the application should register on the Glasgow Care Foundation website with the email address of the organisation they represent. There is an online process in place which informs the support worker of the outcome of their grant application and the support/item provided by the Foundation.

Applications may take two weeks to process. Our Welfare Worker would contact the client and a home visit would be arranged to complete the grant application process.

We also refer clients on to other charitable organisations for support if eligible.

Other information

Glasgow Care Foundation also awards grants to small organisations involved in community work in the Glasgow area. Small grants of up to £1,000 would be considered for:

  • Projects organised via small charities receiving little support from the local authorities
  • Small local projects for organisations with low resources
  • Educational grants to schools or groups for day trips, group holidays or outdoor adventure holidays
