Homelife Carlisle Home Improvement Agency

Homelife Carlisle Home Improvement Agency provides home improvement grants to people who live in the Carlisle City Council area, including Carlisle, Brampton and Longtown. Applicants must be homeowners or eligible lease-holders. They must also be on a low income and savings and/or have a health condition/disability and/or be a carer and/or be over 50 years.

The aim of the grants are to increase independence and safety, helping carers and minimising the effects of disability.

The grants available include:

Minor Measures grants up to £500 to support good health and independence. Examples include: include key-safes, boiler and fire servicing and deep-cleans.

Safe and Warm grants up to £7,500 to assist with wide range of repairs, adaptations and measures to help support well-being and reduce risks in the home. Examples of work funded include: new and replacement heating, energy efficiency, electrical and gas safety, windows and doors, contributions towards disabled adaptations.

Who is eligible?

People who live in the Carlisle City Council area, including Carlisle, Brampton and Longtown.

Applicants must be homeowners or eligible lease-holders, have a low income and savings and/or have a health condition/disability and/or be a carer and/or be over 50 years.

The aim is to increase independence and safety, help carers and minimise the effects of disability.

There is no means test for works to make sure someone is safely discharged from hospital.

Grants are discretionary and decided on a case-by-case basis. Cash grants are not given.

Applicants are expected to apply for any eligible grants in the first instance, such as mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants or Government energy efficiency schemes, such as the Energy Company Obligation (ECO).

Exclusions

Grants are not given:

  • To private or social landlord tenants or landlords

  • For home furnishings or decoration

  • For work that is covered by insurance

  • For work or items that have already been purchased.

 

How to apply?

Please note: any grant given that is over £5,000 will be registered as a local land charge. There are limits on how many grants can be applied for per household.

Applications can be made directly by the individual in need or a family member.

Proof of income, benefits, savings, health condition and home ownership will be needed.

Applications take one - two weeks to process once the supporting evidence is received.

We reply to all applicants, even if we cannot help.

Other information

As an accredited home improvement agency, we can also offer Foundations Independent Living Trust (FILT) grants when available.
