React (Rapid Effective Assistance for Children with Potentially Terminal Illnesses)

React assists families caring for a child with an illness which is life-threatening or has the potential to shorten their lifespan. React can supply a wide range of equipment including specialist wheelchairs, beds, baths, hoists, educational and mobility aids. React can also provide essential household items, for example washing machines and tumble dryers.

React can also help with:

  • Travel and subsistence expenses: To assist with the financial expense during long hospital stays.
  • Respite breaks: Week long holiday breaks at one of React’s holiday homes based at six seaside locations around the UK End of life support:
  • Assistance with funeral expenses and memorial headstones.

Who is eligible?

Families caring for a child with an illness which is life-threatening or has the potential to shorten their lifespan. The charity’s purpose is to provide aid in situations where none is available elsewhere. Applicants can apply for one item.  The request should be basic or necessary for the child and benefit the child's quality of life in some way.

No grants for overseas travel, structural building works, private treatment or the purchase of motor vehicles. React will not fund retrospectively unless the circumstances are exceptional.

How to apply?

Applications are accepted by individuals but must be endorsed by a medical or health care professional. Applicants should supply a written quote or exact price where appropriate.
