If you have a physical or sensory disability and are in further or higher education, or vocational training in the UK, you can apply to us for help with additional disability-related costs. We give grants for items such as computer equipment, mobility equipment, travel costs, or sign language interpreters.

Who is eligible?

We can give grants for:

  • Human help – sign language interpreters and people to take notes
  • Computer equipment
  • Adapted or additional accommodation
  • Travel costs
  • Mobility equipment
  • Other costs which relate solely to disability

We cannot give grants for:

  • Life skills type courses
  • Anything that is available from statutory funding
  • Tuition fees
  • Standard living and accommodation costs (but we will occasionally help with tuition fees if a student can provide justification that their need is directly related to their disability).

The Trust usually accepts applications from February to August for funding for the academic year starting in July or October. Visit the website to find out when the next deadline is:

Please note that you need to include the following in your application:

  • Medical confirmation of your disability from your doctor or consultant (or an educational psychologist’s assessment if you are seeking help towards dyslexia related study costs)
  • An academic reference from a current or previous place of study
  • A personal reference (from someone who has known you for at least 3 years and is not related to you)
  • Confirmation of an offer of the study place
  • Evidence of costs for the support you are seeking
  • A copy of your DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) assessment if applicable
