Who is eligible?

Individuals in need who live in the Parish of South Hackney (according to the old parish boundaries within the Borough of Hackney - see the Area-of-Benefit-map-on-the-Hackney-Parochial-Charities-website-(PDF-file-size:-6,330kb).

What we don't fund

We don't give grants for debts, utility bills, ongoing daily living costs, student course fees.

How to apply?

You can apply online via the Hackney Parochial Charities website (you will find the application form in the South Hackney Parochial Charity section). You can also contact the charity for an application form.

Individuals can apply directly but a supporting letter/statement from a health/social care/welfare professional from a charity or organisation (on headed paper) is needed. Payments are not made directly to individuals so the charity or organisation needs to be willing to accept the grant payment and then make their own payment on to the applicant in need if they are successful.

Individuals will have to supply proof of their current address, such as a utility bill or tenancy agreement, as well as costings for the individual items they are applying for, for instance, links to the pages or an Argos or online catalogue.

The South Hackney Parochial Charities are managed by a Board of Trustees who are local people with an interest in the community.

The trustees meet four times a year (February, May, August and November) to consider applications for grants.

Applications take around two months on average to process.

We email or write letters to all applicants, whether or not they are successful. If you are not eligible for help from the South Hackney Parochial Charities, we try to signpost you to other organisations that may be able to help, depending on your background, circumstances and needs.

If you live in other parts of Hackney, you may be eligible for help from other Hackney Parochial Charities.
