St John's Foundation

St John's Foundation provides financial assistance and support to individuals and families who have reached a crisis point in their lives and are living in the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council area.

The grants pay for essential items that individuals and families in crisis need to improve their lives. This includes:

  • Household items

  • Furniture

  • Carpets

  • Help with debts and bankruptcy fees

  • Counselling

  • Courses

  • Funeral expenses

  • And more.

What we can't help with

  • Loans

  • Fines (including Magistrate Court Fines)

  • Deposits or Rent in Advance

  • Retrospective Funding

  • Gap Year Projects

  • Gifts

  • Holidays (apart from it may consider funding trips for children which enrich learning opportunities).

It also does not provide grants to residents of St John's Almshouses.

Who is eligible?

Individuals and families who have reached a crisis point in their lives and are living in the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council area.

How to apply?

Direct applications from individuals and families in need are not accepted. Applications should be made from an approved local referral agency.  This includes the local Citizens Advice, Developing Health Initiatives and local housing providers.

The charity aims to process grants within five working days.  It replies to all applications that have been submitted, whether successful or not.

Other information

St John's Foundation offers funding support for organisations in the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council area. 

It has a calendar of events to help people aged over 55 years develop skills and reduce isolation. It also runs a number of almshouses supporting circa 100 residents to live as independently as possible.
