What the charity doesn't fund

Barnes Workhouse Fund doesn't fund private school fees or postgraduate costs.

How to apply?

Individuals should not apply directly. Applications must be made via an intermediary organisation, such as Citizens Advice, Richmond Social Services or other local voluntary organisations with whom the person needing help has closed links. These organisations have the Barnes Workhouse Fund online application form.

Applications are considered all year round. Requests are looked at as soon as an enquiry is submitted.

Applications take about five days to process on average.

The charity replies to all applicants, whether or not it can help.

Grants are usually given via the intermediary organisation not directly to the individual, unless it is for living costs for a student at university or similar further education provider.

Please note: The office is closed during August every year.

Documents/Information required as part of the application process

If applying for help with a utility bill, the charity requires a copy of the bill.

Benefits information should be supplied to the intermediary making the application.
