The Bowley Charity for Deprived Children

Grants are available for disadvantaged children aged 0-16 years and 17-18 years who live and are in full time education in the Watford or Three Rivers districts of Hertfordshire. Grants are made in Argos vouchers and are to help with the purchase of

  • children's furniture, e.g. cots, beds and storage units 
  • baby equipment 
  • and white goods that will benefit a child, e.g. cookers, fridge-freezers, and washing machines.

Who is eligible?

Disadvantaged children aged 0-16 years and 17-18 years in full time education in the Watford or Three Rivers districts of Hertfordshire where they are permanently housed, or in which they have a secure offer of housing. One application per family per year.

What we do not give grants for

Fitted flooring, computing equipment, school uniform, school trips, car seats, living room furniture, bedroom furniture for parents/carers. Families in temporary accommodation.

How to apply?

Please note that individuals and families do not apply directly, but an intermediary such as a social worker, health visitor or support worker should apply on their behalf, describing why the individual or family needs a particular item.

The intermediary should know the family and their current circumstances and recently made a home visit. Download an application form from the Bowley Charity website

Grants are made four times a year, normally in March, June, September and December. The closing dates for applications are listed on the website.
