The Bristol Benevolent Institution

Ongoing grants for people aged 60 years or older who are in need and live in the greater Bristol area, including North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Grants are also available for people aged 55 and over if they have a severe disability and chronic illness.

Ongoing grants can be up to £1,600 and are to help with general living expenses or unexpected household costs.

For people who own their own homes, free of mortgage, we cannot give grants but can offer interest free loans secured by a charge on their property. The loans are small, no more than £5,000 in any one year, but can be given every year if needed. There are no charges and no interest to be paid, regardless of the number of years the loan is in place. And are only repayable from the sale of the property when the person dies or moves house.
