Last updated on 23 March 2018

Who is eligible?

People in need who are over the age of 55 and have lived or worked in the city of Edinburgh or in Midlothian. Help may also be given to younger individuals who are certified on medical grounds as unable to earn their living.

How to apply?

The Trust employs an Almoner who assesses need and reports to the Trust before any grant is awarded.

We welcome approaches for help at any time from any source or from individuals themselves by phone/email/by letter either to the Merchant Company offices or directly to the Almoner. Having obtained basic details about the person needing help, a home visit is then arranged and the Almoner will take the application form for completion during the visit. One of the reasons for doing things this way is that if we are unable to help, we may be able to suggest other possibilities.
