Who is eligible?

Students must:

  • Be under the age of 25
  • Be a resident of the City of Birmingham for more than three years (not just for the purposes of further education)
  • Supply evidence that they are in receipt/have applied for a student loan
  • Demonstrate that they have approached their relevant student services department regarding funding available from the Higher Education Funding Council for England; and
  • Complete an application form, provide a reference from their tutor and attend a short interview with the Trustees prior to any grant being made.

The Charity supports:

  • Students originally resident in Birmingham but currently studying elsewhere in the UK; and
  • Students undertaking a recognised course leading to a qualification after completing mainstream education (this includes post graduate qualifications).

Please note: Applications cannot be accepted from students who live outside the City who are resident in Birmingham purely to attend their course of study at a Birmingham College or University.

How to apply?

Applications must be completed by students and not by an organisation on their behalf. Students can enquire by email, telephone or letter.

Full details and the application form are available on the George Fentham Charity website

Students are required to complete an application form and attend a short interview with the Trustees prior to any award being made. Students can apply once per calendar year.
