The Grateful Society

The Grateful Society offers provision for the relief of financial hardship, sickness and ill health (including physical & mental ill health) amongst elderly people in the area of benefit. One-off grants are available for women over 50 who have lived in Bristol, on a low income towards an independent life in their own home. 

The society also promotes the advancement of health, the relief of poverty and the advancement of education in the City and County of Bristol of any other of the unitary authorities of North Somerset, South Gloucestershire or Bath & North East Somerset.

Who is eligible?

 

The prime purpose of the Society if to provide annuities and/or grants to ladies who are: 

  • Over 50 years of age
  • In reduced circumstances
  • Who have lived for at least 10 years in the boundaries of the City and County of Bristol and of any other of the unitary authorities of North Somerset, South Gloucestershire or Bath & North East Somerset. 

Grants may occasionally also be given to men in reduced circumstances.

How to apply?

Applications can be made year round and decisions are made by Trustees at their meetings which happen twice each year.
