The Harpur Trust (Adult Education)

The Harpur Trust runs an Adult Education Scheme to improve financial circumstances or quality of life for adults on low incomes living in Bedford by helping them access education leading to return to work or career change.

Applicants must be permanently resident in Bedford, on a low income, planning a return to work or a career change and have left formal education at least five years ago.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must be permanently resident in the borough of Bedford, on a low income, planning a return to work or a career change and have left formal education at least five years ago.

Please note: The charity doesn't give grants for Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) courses or recreational courses, including academic courses taken for recreational purposes only. It only funds people who are part way through a course in exceptional circumstances.

How to apply?

Grant applications are usually considered mostly in Spring and Summer (end of May for academic courses that start in September/October). However they can sometimes be considered at other times of the year.

Enquiries can be made directly by individuals or by intermediaries.

The Harpur Trust also has a University Bursary Scheme for students from low income families who are studying at participating state schools and colleges in the Borough of Bedford:

It also has a school uniform scheme, administered directly by the secondary schools, for student on free school meals who are transferring from primary to Bedford state secondary schools. The school will notify students if they are eligible for the uniform scheme.
