The Institution of Structural Engineers’ Benevolent Fund

Members or former members of the institution and their dependants. Grants for general living expenses or for specific items of expenditure. Organisation also provides secured Interest free loans for example for modifications to property required because of disability.

Who is eligible?

Members or former members of the Institution and their dependants who are in financial difficulties due to circumstances such as: unemployment; illness, accident or disability; family problems; difficulties during retirement; or bereavement.

Grants are not awarded for university, college or continuing professional development course fees or private medical treatment. Grants are only made to student members of the Institution in exceptional circumstances.

How to apply?

Email the Secretary to request an application form. Applications are considered all year round. The trust likes to visit applicants before any grant is made.

Please note: in cases of genuine emergency, the fund can pay up to £500, as a loan, normally within days.

Other information

The organisation also provides other services such as: reviewing eligibility for state benefits and back to work assistance for people who are unemployed.
