The Mayor of Barnet’s Benevolent Fund

Grants for people who have lived in the London Borough of Barnet for at least one year and are in financial need. People must be receiving some kind of income related statutory welfare benefits (such as Income Support or Child Tax Credit).

Grants are to assist with essential living costs such as:

  • purchasing or replacing household appliances (such as a cooker, refrigerator or washing machine)
  • furnishing or equipping a new property
  • school uniform
  • help with essential items needed to care for a new born child beyond what might be funded through statutory sources
  • clothes or shoes for adults if these have to be specially purchased
  • relieving a financial crisis: where financial hardship has arisen from unforeseen circumstances.

To apply for the grant you must:

  • have lived in the London Borough of Barnet for at least one year
  • be receiving some kind of income related statutory welfare benefits (such as Income Support or Child Tax Credit) be in financial need

We will accept requests from a third party, such as a social worker, a health visitor or an advice agency, so long as the correspondent has first-hand knowledge of your circumstances. It usually takes about four weeks to obtain a decision so long as applications contain all of the information required.
