The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund

Grants for GMC registered doctors, medical students and refugee doctors who are retraining to practise medicine in the UK. 

The type of help available:

  • Monthly grants to help with essential day-to-day living costs
  • Back-to-work awards, if you are returning to work after a period of illness
  • Help with purchasing specialist equipment
  • Help with purchasing disability adaptations for your car or home
  • Top-up for residential fees or extra care costs where there is a Local Authority assessed need

Who is eligible?

To be eligible you must meet one of the following

  • Be a GMC registered doctor and in financial need due to an illness, disability or because you are over state retirement age
  • A refugee doctor who is retraining to practise medicine in the UK
  • A registered student on a course at a UK medical school which meets the eligibility requirements for GMC registration

What we can't help with

  • private health care
  • private education
  • legal fees
  • inland Revenue payments or repaying loans from family and friends

Email or call the fund to talk to the casework team, and discuss whether you are eligible for help.
