The Scottish Solicitors’ Benevolent Fund (incorporating The Scottish Law Agents’ Society Benevolent Fund)

The Scottish Law Agents Society, working in partnership with the Law Society of Scotland, administers the Scottish Solicitors Benevolent Fund (SSBF).

The charity exists to provide much needed assistance to solicitors qualified in Scotland and their dependents, who are in difficult circumstances. Typical beneficiaries include solicitors unable to practise due to ill health and the dependents of deceased solicitors who have been unable to make adequate financial arrangements for their families.

A standard award is £500 covering a period of six months. Such assistance is modest, but can provide a critically important “breathing space” that enables a practitioner to get back on their feet. This of course will have a wider significant impact if it enables a firm to continue to trade and employ staff.
