The Solicitors’ Benevolent Association

Grants and interest-free loans for solicitors (current or former) on the Roll for England & Wales, and their dependents who are in need. Every year we help hundreds of people of all ages who are in serious financial need as a result of illness, accident, redundancy or other adversity.

Who is eligible?

We can consider help if:

  • You are a solicitor (current or former) on the Roll for England & Wales
  • You are (or have been) financially dependent on a current or former solicitor
  • Your total household income is below the level indicated by the relevant ‘Minimum Income Standard’ calculation
  • You do not have access to liquid assets of more than £10,000

Please note that the SBA does not give grants to unqualified law students or trainees. The SBA does not give grants to solicitors who have been struck off the Roll for dishonesty, but may be able to help their dependents.
