Vetlife (Veterinary Benevolent Fund)

One-off and recurrent grants for veterinary surgeons and retired veterinary surgeons who are in need, and their dependants. The charity also runs a helpline for everyone working in the veterinary community.

Who is eligible?

You must be a veterinary surgeon, on or off the register – working, retired or unable to practice. Dependents of veterinary surgeons can also apply for grants.

Vetlife can only offer financial support to veterinary surgeons and their dependants. However, students and veterinary nurses are welcome to use Vetlife's helpline and health support programme. 

What we can't help with

  • The cost of studying veterinary medicine as a second degree
  • Business or partnership debt
  • The costs of mandatory training courses
  • Private education
  • Legal fees
  • Private medical care including care home fees
  • Financial support simply because someone is unemployed
  • Repaying loans to family and friend
  • Improvements and repairs to rented property

The charity also runs a helpline, email support and mental health support for everyone in the veterinary community, for example surgeons, nurses, students and practice managers.
