Who is eligible?

The Trust helps former Wrens (i.e. members of the Regular Service, who served between 3 September 1939 and 1 November 1993), whether living in the UK or abroad.

What we don't fund

Retrospective grants of any kind are not normally made.

We do not give grants to help with the settlement of secondary debts (e.g. credit cards or catalogues) or sums owed to family members or friends. Exceptionally, we may consider giving help towards the funeral costs of a deceased former Wren, in which case the applicant will be the family member making the application.

How to apply?

Applications can be made by the individual in need or a family member.

Grants are given directly to individuals.

Application process

Enquiries and applications are looked at as soon as they are received.

We have no caseworkers of our own and therefore work mainly with the Royal British Legion (RBL) and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), and their discreet and knowledgeable caseworkers call on any applicant on our behalf. They complete a report, which is then put before our Grants Committee for consideration.

Applications take about one week to process.

Evidence of service in the Women's Royal Naval Service is required.

We reply to all applicants, whether or not we can help.

We also dispense some larger grants via SSAFA, The Royal British Legion (TRBL), The Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services Leage (RCEL) and some local authorities.
