Young Carers Activity Fund

You can apply to this fund if you are a young carer under the age of 18 and you live in Sheffield.

You can apply for anything that will help with the costs of taking a break, such as:

  • The cost of activities such as swimming or gym membership
  • Transport costs to get to an activity
  • Equipment that will help you take a break, such as a a laptop or Netflix subscription

Who is eligible?

You might be able to get a grant if you live in Sheffield, you are aged under 18 and you are identified as a young carer either by:

  • Having a Young Carers Assessment


  • Being a member of Sheffield Young Carers (SYC) in the past

What we can't give grants for

  • Breaks or activities that are taken during school or college hours
  • School or college equipment or school or college trips

How to apply?

If you are a young carer you should not apply directly; instead, a professional should apply on your behalf. This could be your social worker, MAST worker, teacher, support worker, GP or another professional who works with you or the person you are caring for. 

If you do not have a professional who can do this with you, please ring Sheffield Young Carers on 0114 258 4595.

The professional should complete the application form that can be downloaded from the Sheffield Young Carers website

The closing dates for applications for 2019-20 are:

  • Friday 14th June 2019
  • Friday 4th October 2019
  • Friday 7th February 2020

You can submit applications at any time. Applications are considered one week after each closing date.
